In this season of the upcoming election, there is a lot of anxiety about who will win and whether our country will be okay. Some of us even worry about the nation “going to hell in a hand basket;” or, we worry about God’s purposes being thwarted if the wrong person is elected. As unsettling as this feels, it’s important to remind ourselves that political turmoil has been a regular reality in societies around the world and throughout time. In fact, when Jesus launched his ministry, Palestine was in a particularly tumultuous political season. Even still, Jesus wasn’t worried. Right in the midst of that chaos, he announced the good news: “the kingdom of God is in your midst.” (Luke 20-21, NIV) During this sermon series, we will explore what it means to dwell in this kingdom of God that is already in our midst even when there is so much uncertainty and anxiety all around us.
